PWC looks to tackle and fill in the gap for caregivers and spouses within the Charleston community. General studies on caregivers indicate that caregivers suffer from physical strain and a general decline in physical and mental health. PWC has focused on the key areas such as work/life balance, stress management, and building a network of caregivers to increase morale and unity. Caregivers tend to put their own concerns last, citing a lack of time and ability to get the hours needed for their own care. Military caregivers also suffer disproportionately from mental health problems and emotional distress. PWC has developed a program specifically centered on caregivers and spouses to decrease depression, increase quality of relationships with others who may experience similar hardships, and increase family balance.
