Nearly 200 Lowcounty locals threw on their blue jeans on Thursday, April 13 in support of veterans at Palmetto Warrior Connection’s (PWC) first-ever Red, White & Blue Jean Ball.
The event was the first annual fundraiser hosted by the local non-profit organization. Held at Founder’s Hall at Charles Towne Landing, the night included food from prominent Charleston restaurants such as Swig & Swine, 82 Queen, Lowcountry Bistro, Graze, Smoke BBQ, Home Team BBQ and more. Guests were treated to dessert from Gelati Moto and enjoyed beer, wine and specialty drinks provided by Dixie Southern Vodka and Striped Pig Distillery. Chucktown’s own Forty Mile Detour opened the evening’s entertainment with their signature brand of “Authentic American Music.” Guests then took in a show from rising country star Chris Hawkey.
The night was relaxed and casual but the overall message of the need in our veteran community was apparent. This event raised awareness of the needs of Lowcountry veterans and military who are transitioning to civilian life.
Leaving the Military is a huge transition, and PWC believes that Warriors and their family members shouldn’t do it alone. Proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction will directly support PWC in their mission to create awareness and cultivate a community that embraces and empowers our local veterans and transitioning military.
The money will go toward programs, services and events that address issues such as job placement, education, benefits, permanent housing and mental health support.
The next Red, White & Blue Jean Ball will be held in April 2018.
